The Far Side of Magnolia

Today I took my husband on a picnic to the far side of Magnolia.  It was wonderful, really hot and sweaty, but wonderful.  We found some wild blackberry bushes and each had a hand full of sun ripened berries.  But the bushes fought back, I have thorn scratches all over my legs.  For our picnic, I even got some exotic food, namely imported cheese.  It was a rare treat to have Gruyère, Brie, Prosciutto, bean sprouts, Dijon and cherub tomato sandwiches.  And to finish it off we enjoyed mango lemonade.

My husband caught me frolicking.

I found a field of Sweet Peas!

Sweat Peas are my favorite flowers.  Not only are they the flowers for April, when I was born, but they mean "Thank you for a lovely time".

The view of the Puget Sound at our picnic was amazing.

I collected a bouquet of Sweet Peas for our apartment.

I love the curly vines.

Fun story, today at my church it was teacher appreciation day.  They gave us all flowers and chocolate!  I picked this vase with the two calla Lilies.

The Daily Bite: Bakke Brothers Alligator Jerky

http://www.comcastbiteofseattle.com/media/images/events/2012BiteArt.jpg

I actually tried Bakke Brothers Brand Original Alligator Jerky last Friday (20 July) at Bite of Seattle.  It was held at the Seattle Center, which was good because even though I live really close, I saw buildings and fountains I had never seen before!  I keep finding new things in this incredible city.

The Alligator Jerky was amazing!  Seriously.  My husband and I each got a bag, and we finished them off before the end of the night.  We watched Duel Survival Season 1 Episode 6, where Cody and Dave get stuck in the Louisiana bayou (Dave kills a cayman and eats it).  It seemed appropriate.

The Daily Bite: Piroshky Piroshky

http://espressoandchocolate.blogspot.com/2011/12/piroshky-piroshky-of-seattle-wa.html

My mother actually told me about Piroshky Piroshky at Pike Place Market.  She read about it and said I should try it out.  So I did, and it was delicious.  I ordered an apple cinnamon roll for my husband and one for myself.  It was the perfect amount of crunchy on the outside and doughy on the inside.  Plus I love cinnamon rolls and I love apples, so it was a win-win.  This time I thought I would be safe and go for something sweet, but Piroshky Piroshky also offers meat pastries and I want to try one some time.

The Daily Bites: Pike Place Chowder, Doc's Marina, Zeeks Pizza again, Lunchbox Laboratory, and Ivar's

We ate at a lot of delicious places while Shan and Billy were here.

Matt and I had eaten at Pike Place Chowder before, but it was more amazing then I remembered!  The first time I had chicken and corn chowder, and this time I had California Clam Chowder.  I would definitely recommend it!  Matt had scallop chowder, I may or may not have had several spoonfuls, and it was also amazing.  Later I looked up some tips from the owner, apparently they add dill and lime juice.  Whatever they do, they should keep doing it.

Kristin Hannah treated us to Doc's Marina when we met her on Bainbridge Island.  I had the lobster bisque and it was really good.  I am mainly excited I discovered they serve lobster mac and cheese, which are two of Matt's all time favorite foods.  We will be going back, probably for Matt's birthday.

We had to introduce them to Zeeks Pizza, and they picked the club chicken pizza.  It was really good, but the Buffalo Soldier is still my favorite.  I love that Zeeks uses fresh herbs.

We went to Lunchbox Laboratory because we had heard a lot of good things about it.  It was all true.  But it was dramatically under-exaggerated.  THAT WAS THE MOST AMAZING HAMBURGER I HAVE EVER TASTED.  It was like a Fourth of July firework display in my mouth, but on Christmas, while wearing my favorite Halloween costume.  It was Dork (duck and pork), feta, black truffle mayo and gorgonzola spread.  My mouth is literally watering just thinking about it.  Enough about an amazing sandwich.

We also went to Ivar's (Keep cɐlm) the Seattle classic.  I had scallops and chips.  And it was tasty as always.
